Sarees chosen loom by loom

A family shop in Narsingi, Hyderabad, buying directly from the weavers we have known for years.

How we buy

We go to the loom

Everything on these shelves was chosen in person. We travel to the clusters — Kanchipuram, Gadwal, Pochampally, Narayanpet — and buy from the same weaving families we have bought from for years.

That is why we buy in small numbers. A weaver who makes four sarees a month cannot make forty, and we would rather sell the four than fill a shelf with something we did not choose.

What you are paying for

The zari is the zari

Half-fine zari is silver drawn into wire and gilded. It holds its colour. The other kind goes brassy in a season, and on a photograph the two look identical.

So we say which is which on every saree, alongside the fabric, the weave, the length and the weight. If a piece carries a Silk Mark or a Handloom Mark, that is on the page too.

What we hold ourselves to

Three promises

  1. One saree, one piece

Most of what we stock is a single piece. When it is gone it is usually gone, and we would rather tell you that than take an order we cannot fill.

  2. The same price at the counter

What the site shows is what the shop charges. No online-only markup, and no discount that was never a discount.

  3. Someone who knows the answer

Call the number at the bottom of any page and you will reach the shop, not a call centre. We can send more photographs, or show you the saree on a video call.

Photographs only do so much with silk. The shop is open six days a week, and there is always tea.
